Promoting the Rural AreaCommunity based events and festivals play an important role in stimulating rural community and economic activity. LEADER+ has supported the establishment of events and is looking to develop this further through a transnational project, learning from groups in other rural areas of Europe. Lanark Medieval Festival is a two day living history event focusing on Lanark's history and heritage. Each August more than 8000 visitors enjoy battle re-enactments, archery tournaments, period music and falconry displays. Biggar Little Festival includes ten days oif events, showcasing the arts in and around Biggar. It offers a diverse range of music, theatre, dance, arts and crafts exhibitions and workshops, together with a range of family activities. Scottish Clydesdale Heavy Horse Show at the Lanark Agricultrual Centre, focuses on reviving interest in one of the most iconic features of rural Clydesdale. Assistance has been provided to purchase essential equipment.
