The largely 18th century winding Main Street retains much of its medieval character and is dominated by Old St Bride’s Church where lie the remains of the Earls of Douglas.
"A Douglas, A Douglas!" Rallying cry of one of the most powerful of Medieval Scottish families whose exploits in the cause of national independence with Robert the Bruce have left the village of Douglas a rich, proud and often turbulent historical legacy.

This site is built by volunteers from the Douglas Heritage Museum. We started the site in August 2004 and will continue to add new information, so please keep coming back.

Visit the Douglas Heritage Museum

The Douglas Heritage Museum first opened its doors to the public in August 1993 in one of the village’s oldest buildings, the former Dower House of the Douglas-Home family.

The museum aims to present the significant moments in the history of Douglas by creating exhibitions each year which reflect the life and heritage of Douglas and the Douglasians.
