Musical Repertoire

Everyone one of our members gets a big black ring binder when they join, bulging with hundreds of pieces of music ranging from classical music to popular music, from easy listening tunes to TV/film themes, from military marches to hymn tunes. (Trust us, they are bulging - the rings burst open and the music goes everywhere all the time). New items of music are appearing in our playlist all the time, most of which have been arranged by our conductor John Bryce.

Our concert programmes are varied are designed to suit all tastes.

Our Classical Music includes some brilliant pieces of music such as Shostakovich's "Folk Dances", "Intermezzo from Cavalleria Rusticana" by Mascagni.  It also includes more recent works by Ted Huggens and Phillip Sparke like "New Baroque Suite" and "A Klezmer Karnival" respectively.

We also play a substantial number of Classical Overtures, mainly for competition purposes.  In the past we have played pieces as challenging as Mussorgsky's "Pictures At An Exhibition" and "Night On The Bare Mountain".  Other overtures played recently include Rossini's "William Tell", "Oberon" by Carl von Weber and Rimsky-Korsakov's "Scheherezade".

We also play a significant amount of Scottish music, which includes "A Nicht Wi' Burns" showcasing the works of Rabbie Burns, "The Rose of Kelvingrove" and the classic "Highland Cathedral".

Our movie themes are so varied there's bound to be one you'd recognise. "Concierto de Aranjeuz" from Brassed Off, "Gabriel's Oboe" from The Mission are just two great examples.  We also have in our playlist theme music fromm films such as "Schindler's List", "Braveheart", "The Sound of Music", "Pirates of the Carribean" and "Les Misérables".

We are also able to provide a wide selection of Christmas Music throughout the Festive Season.

Visit our Library for samples of music or order one of our CDs.
